Gaywood Primary School

Gaywood Jubilee Celebrations

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will be long remembered by our primary school children, after they received specially minted Jubilee coins.

Each pupil was presented with one of the souvenir coins by Springwood councillor Jo Rust, who also secured £200 funding to enable all three schools in her ward to celebrate the Jubilee in style.

On the last day of term, children at Gaywood were encouraged to dress in red, white and blue, while each year group also held its own celebrations.

The Reception class made decorations, crowns, and ‘Queen cakes’, for a Jubilee picnic which they enjoyed on our school field.

The older year groups each had their own ‘street party’ in the school grounds, with music, food and hand-made decorations.

Year 1 made placemats representing things they thought the Queen would like, Year 2 made bunting, and Years 3 and 4 created their own Royal Top Trump cards.

Pupils in Year 5 decorated cakes and designed a commemorative stamp, while Year 6 prepared a ‘Queen Hunt’ for the reception children to see how many stamps they could find.

Other schools receiving Jubilee coins and funding from Jo Rust included Roseberry and St Martha’s.
