Our Enrichment Offer

At Gaywood Primary School, we believe that education extends far beyond the classroom. Our enrichment offer provides every child with opportunities to discover new interests, develop their talents, build confidence and experience the wider world.

Enrichment is an important part of our curriculum and reflects our school values of Respect, Resilience, Ambition and Diversity.

We want every child, regardless of their background or starting point, to leave Gaywood having enjoyed a rich range of experiences that broaden their horizons, raise their aspirations and help prepare them for their next stage of education and life beyond school.

Our Enrichment Entitlement

Throughout their time at Gaywood, children experience a carefully planned programme of enrichment. This complements our knowledge-rich curriculum and provides opportunities for pupils to apply their learning, develop new skills and create lasting memories.

Our enrichment offer includes:

• educational visits linked to curriculum learning;
• visitors and experts who bring learning to life;
• sporting activities, competitions and events;
• music, singing and performance opportunities;
• art and creative experiences;
• opportunities to explore nature and the outdoors;
• cultural experiences and celebrations;
• community projects and links with our local area;
• leadership and responsibility;
• special curriculum days and events;
• assemblies and opportunities for reflection;
• extra-curricular clubs and activities; and
• opportunities to represent Gaywood within the wider West Norfolk Academies Trust community.

Our enrichment programme is planned progressively from Reception to Year 6 so that children's experiences grow in breadth and ambition as they move through the school.

Broadening Horizons

Our curriculum is designed both to reflect the community in which our children live and to broaden their horizons beyond it.

We want children to encounter people, places, ideas, cultures and experiences that they might not otherwise experience. Enrichment therefore works alongside our curriculum to develop children's cultural capital, vocabulary, confidence, curiosity and understanding of the wider world.

These opportunities help our children to become confident and successful citizens who are ready to make a positive contribution to their community.

Clubs and Extra-Curricular Opportunities

We provide a range of extra-curricular opportunities throughout the school year, giving children the chance to pursue existing interests and discover new ones.

Our programme changes during the year and may include opportunities in areas such as sport, music, art and creativity.

Information about current clubs, the year groups for which they are available and how to take part is communicated to parents and carers.

Inclusion – Enrichment for Every Child

We believe that enrichment should be for every child.

We monitor participation so that we can identify children and groups who may be less likely to access enrichment opportunities. We work to remove barriers wherever possible and actively encourage participation, particularly for disadvantaged pupils, pupils with SEND and children who may not otherwise have access to similar opportunities.

Our aim is not simply to provide opportunities, but to make sure that our children benefit from them.

Pupil Voice

Children's views help us to develop our enrichment offer.

We listen to pupils about the activities and experiences they have enjoyed, the opportunities they would like to experience and the interests they would like to develop.

This helps us to ensure that our enrichment programme continues to respond to the interests and needs of our school community.

Celebrating Achievement

We are proud of what our children achieve both within and beyond the classroom.

We celebrate participation, effort, achievement and success through our assemblies, displays, school communications and opportunities to share children's accomplishments with the wider school community.

We encourage children to recognise that achievement can take many different forms – from performing for an audience or representing the school in sport to demonstrating resilience, learning a new skill or contributing to the community.

Reviewing Our Offer

Our enrichment provision is reviewed regularly by school leaders.

We consider:

• the range and quality of opportunities available;
• participation by different groups of pupils;
• children's views and interests;
• whether there are barriers to participation;
• how effectively experiences complement our curriculum; and
• where we can further broaden children's opportunities.

This enables us to continue developing an ambitious, inclusive and high-quality enrichment offer for every child at Gaywood.

Our Enrichment Journey: Reception to Year 6

Reception
Building confidence, curiosity and a sense of belonging through first-hand experiences, visitors, celebrations, the natural world and our local community.

Years 1 and 2
Developing independence and broadening children's experiences through visits, performances, creative opportunities, sport and exploration of the wider community.

Years 3 and 4
Discovering new interests and talents, developing teamwork and resilience and participating in an increasingly broad range of cultural, sporting, creative and community experiences.

Years 5 and 6
Developing leadership, responsibility, independence and ambition, with opportunities to represent the school, undertake new challenges and prepare for the next stage of education.
