Gaywood Community Primary School opened in September 2000 after an amalgamation between Rosebery Avenue First School and Gaywood Junior School, and caters for boys and girls, aged 4-ll years of age. At present, there are 417 children on roll. We have fourteen classrooms, a music mobile, a library, a hall with fixed apparatus, a Key Stage 1 carpeted hall and an ICT suite. Gaywood Community Primary School is set in spacious grounds with two playgrounds and a large playing field.

Class teachers are responsible for ensuring the welfare of all of the children and delivery of the curriculum. Work is planned jointly across teaching team with close communication and support from our teaching assistant team. Planning and delivery draws upon the strengths, skills and knowledge within the year group teams to ensure lessons are exciting and well matched to the needs of the children.

Complaints Procedure

Every school must publish their School Complaints Procedure for Parents and Carers. Our school follows the guidelines as laid down in the Department for Education’s School Complaints Toolkit (2014) and follows 4 stages:

1. Stage 1 (informal): Complaint heard by Staff member, this is usually your child’s Class Teacher.
2. Stage 2 (informal): Complaint heard by Headteacher.
3. Stage 3 (formal): Complaint heard by Chair of Governors.
4. Stage 4 (formal): Complaint heard by Governing Body Complaint Appeals Panel.

The details regarding each stage and the steps that must be taken can be found in the attached document.

Holiday Requests

Here you will find all information on requesting leave of absence during term time.

As you may be aware from recent stories in the media, the regulations governing Term Time Holidays are changing. Amendments have been made to the 2006 regulations and come into effect on the 1st September 2013.

The changes make clear that schools may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances and the discretionary figure of 10 days absence has been removed. The new regulations will apply to all state schools in England.

This means that we will no longer authorise any holidays during term-time. Any child absent from school for a term time holiday will be registered as unauthorised. The regulations state that a parent who fails to ensure their child’s regular attendance at school can be issued with a fixed penalty notice.

If you need any support with this matter or you would like to discuss your child’s attendance please make an appointment to see your child’s class teacher in the first instance.
